-
Supporting mothers to make an informed decision about feeding their baby
-
Promoting and sharing evidence-based and best practice guidelines with regards to infant feeding guidelines

Protecting mothers and infants from the marketing pressures of formula companies
-
Promoting practices that give mothers and babies a healthy start
This is a global strategy by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to increase breastfeeding rates and improve population health outcomes for all. It was developed to help hospitals and communities understand and work towards increasing breastfeeding initiation and duration rates by protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding.
This designation is provided to every agency or facility that provides maternity care/service of newborn infants, if they adhere to 10 Guidelines as set out by the WHO.
A list of the BFI designated facilities are listed here.

Public places who support breastfeeding may display this logo at the entrance of their facility.

REMEMBER that the Human Rights Code protects women from being discriminated against because of their sex; this includes breastfeeding. You have the right to breastfeed wherever and whenever!
